Electrical Commissioning Engineer

About the role

A global data centre consulting firm, part of a larger international group, is looking for an Electrical Commissioning Engineer in Melbourne. The engineer oversees the development of test scripts and the testing of complex electrical infrastructure products and systems, working across the full lifecycle of mission-critical data centre facilities.

Key responsibilities

• Provide engineering and technical support for planning, scheduling, coordinating and performing commissioning across the life cycle of critical facilities
• Take part in the MEP design process and witness static and dynamic testing of mechanical, electrical and control systems
• Operate systems in normal, maintenance and failure modes, perform tests and write functional performance test scripts and integrated system test procedures
• Work with contractors to interpret designs and specifications, and use equipment such as power quality analysers and oscilloscopes
• Carry out on-site surveys, field reports, punch lists and general condition surveys, and review project drawings and submissions
• Develop MEP test and operating procedures, respond to RFIs and coordinate with other field engineers
• Familiarise yourself with technical standards, local regulations and construction practices, and follow safety requirements

Required profile

• Advanced experience in live components, three-phase AC power systems (HV/MV/LV) and DC power systems
• Experience with heavy commercial/industrial electrical systems, installation of subsystems, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting and maintenance
• Ability to work with customers and maintain professional standards

Required skills

• High voltage, medium voltage and low voltage power systems, electrical protection, transformers, generators and switchgear (PDU, UPS wrap-around)
• Control systems, EPMS, SCADA and PLC; grounding and instrumentation
• Load bank calculations and interpretation of UPS/generator waveforms
• Networks and communication protocols such as BACnet, Modbus and Ethernet
