About the role

This senior executive position leads a specialised regulatory function that shapes professional standards and protects consumers across Australia. It offers a unique opportunity for an experienced regulatory, legal or professional‑standards practitioner to guide a specialist team through a period of strategic delivery and organisational development.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the delivery of professional‑standards regulatory functions and support statutory decision‑making of national Professional Standards Councils.
• Drive improvements in professional standards and consumer protection within the legal, audit/accounting and built‑environment sectors.
• Provide strategic advice on complex regulatory and legislative matters.
• Build and influence relationships with senior stakeholders across government, industry and professional associations.
• Identify and manage emerging risks, issues and opportunities.
• Promote operational excellence, continuous improvement and strategic initiatives.
• Lead, develop and support a high‑performing team, fostering a culture of accountability and collaboration.

Required profile

• Thoughtful, resilient leader able to navigate complexity and exercise sound judgement.
• Significant experience in regulation, legal practice, compliance, professional standards or a related field.
• Strong statutory interpretation capability and experience applying complex legislation.
• Outstanding stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
• Proven people‑leadership experience with a focus on capability development and culture uplift.
• Methodical, organised and solutions‑focused approach.
• Ability to remain calm and effective when managing competing priorities and sensitive issues.
