Director, Mergers and Exemptions Assessment

About the role
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking a Director to lead its Mergers and Exemptions Assessment team. This senior position shapes the analysis of mergers and acquisitions that affect market structure, consumers and competition across Australia.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a team of professional staff in analysing competition implications of mergers and acquisitions.
- Develop strategic plans, conduct risk assessments and review legal/economic submissions.
- Collaborate with internal economists, lawyers and external agencies, including overseas competition bodies.
- Prepare communications, written recommendations for ACCC Commissioners and formal determinations.
- Represent the ACCC in discussions with industry participants, customers and competitors.
- Oversee Australian Competition Tribunal reviews and litigated merger matters.
Required profile
- Proven experience leading teams in a fast‑paced, complex, people‑centred organisation.
- Exceptional written communication skills in a regulatory context.
- Tertiary qualifications in economics, law or a related discipline.
- Understanding of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, especially Part IVA, and the ACCC’s role.
