Director, EL2, Mergers and Exemptions Assessment

About the role
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is seeking an EL2 Director to lead the Mergers and Exemptions Assessment team. You will guide a group of skilled professionals in analysing the competition implications of mergers and acquisitions that affect Australian markets, consumers and businesses.
Key responsibilities
- Lead a multidisciplinary team to assess competition impacts of proposed mergers and acquisitions.
- Develop strategic plans, conduct risk assessments and review legal/economic submissions.
- Collaborate with internal economists, lawyers and external agencies, including overseas competition bodies.
- Prepare written recommendations, determinations and communications for ACCC Commissioners and industry participants.
- Represent the ACCC in discussions with customers, competitors, industry groups and other government agencies.
- Oversee Australian Competition Tribunal reviews and litigated merger matters.
Required profile
- Proven experience leading teams in a fast‑paced, complex, people‑centred organisation.
- Exceptional written communication skills in a regulatory context.
- Tertiary qualification in economics, law or a related discipline.
- Understanding of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010, especially Part IVA, and the ACCC’s role.
