DevOps Engineer – GitLab Implementation (9‑Month Contract)

About the role

This 9‑month contract role is focused on leading the enterprise‑wide adoption of GitLab Ultimate for a Brisbane‑based organization. You will design, build and optimise CI/CD pipelines, embed DevSecOps practices and provide technical leadership across multiple engineering teams.

Key responsibilities

• Lead implementation, configuration and adoption of GitLab Ultimate across the enterprise.
• Design, develop and optimise CI/CD pipelines and reusable pipeline templates.
• Build and maintain “golden pipelines” to standardise software delivery.
• Design and support GitLab Runner infrastructure for enterprise environments.
• Embed DevSecOps capabilities such as SAST, DAST, Dependency, Container and Secret scanning.
• Automate processes to improve developer productivity and deployment consistency.
• Collaborate with GitLab Professional Services for implementation and knowledge transfer.
• Work with development, cloud, infrastructure and security teams to drive platform adoption.
• Provide technical leadership and best‑practice guidance to engineering teams.
• Contribute to the evolution of the organisation’s DevOps and software delivery capability.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on experience with GitLab Enterprise or GitLab Ultimate.
• Proven track record implementing and administering GitLab in large, complex enterprises.
• Extensive experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and ability to influence technical teams.
• Experience working in large‑scale or highly regulated technology environments.

Required skills

• GitLab CI/CD, GitLab Runners (shared and enterprise architecture).
• DevSecOps features: SAST, DAST, Dependency Scanning, Secret Detection, Container Scanning.
• Infrastructure as Code tools – Terraform, Ansible (or similar).
• Container platforms – Kubernetes, Docker.
• Integration of GitLab with cloud platforms and enterprise tooling.
