Data Engineer (Microsoft Fabric and Azure)

About the role

Randstad is recruiting, on behalf of a Queensland Government Department, a Data Engineer for an initial contract running until June 2027. The role is based in Brisbane CBD with flexible work-from-home arrangements. Candidates must be based in Brisbane and hold working rights.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain data pipelines and architectures using Microsoft Fabric and Azure tools in hybrid cloud environments.
• Manage data ingestion, transformation and storage in Fabric Lakehouses and Delta Lake using PySpark, PySQL and delta formats.
• Use advanced SQL for database management, query optimisation, performance tuning and systems integration.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve pipeline issues to ensure high availability, performance and reliability.
• Apply data quality techniques to prepare and normalise large datasets for analytics and reporting.

Required profile

• 3+ years of data engineering experience with strong expertise in Azure Synapse, data pipelines, data lake architectures and SQL-based tools (SSIS, SSRS).
• Proven ability to design and manage scalable data solutions in hybrid cloud environments.
• Experience preparing and normalising large datasets for reporting and data models.
• Background in data quality management and pipeline governance; Microsoft Azure certifications are viewed favourably.
