Data Centre Design Manager

About the role

This senior leadership position is responsible for design management and governance of complex, multidisciplinary data centre programmes. You will work closely with project managers, directors and technical leads to ensure design delivery meets technical, commercial, program and sustainability goals.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design governance across data centre projects, aligning outcomes with client and project objectives.
• Develop and maintain design management frameworks, schedules and interface strategies.
• Facilitate structured design reviews, coordination forums and risk workshops to drive informed decisions.
• Engage with clients to translate requirements into integrated, value‑driven design solutions.
• Serve as the central point of accountability for design coordination among internal teams, consultants and stakeholders.
• Manage design changes, risks and opportunities with clear governance and documentation.
• Partner with project leadership to align design delivery with procurement, cost and construction milestones.
• Oversee technical assurance and quality processes, ensuring discipline leads meet agreed standards.
• Review and guide design deliverables at key project gateways.
• Champion consistent design standards and governance across the portfolio.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Building Services Engineering or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in an engineering consultancy or integrated project environment delivering large, complex projects.
• Demonstrated success in multidisciplinary design management, preferably in data centres or mission‑critical facilities.
• Strong capability in design governance, project controls, risk and change management, and commercial oversight of sub‑consultants.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑influence skills at senior levels.
• Working knowledge of Australian codes and standards (NCC, AS/NZS); BIM coordination tools experience is advantageous.
