Consultant for Opioid Dependence Treatment Program

About the role

The Australian Injecting and Illicit Drug Users League (AIVL) is seeking an experienced consultant to lead community consultations and develop a Consumer Consensus Statement for the Australian Opioid Dependence Treatment Program (ODTP). The role involves working closely with people who have lived experience of opioid treatment and other drug‑user advocates.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver workshops and group consultations (in‑person or online) with people who use drugs.
• Facilitate a one‑day consensus workshop to finalise the Consumer Consensus Statement.
• Analyse consultation data and produce a findings report.
• Draft the Consumer Consensus Statement and a presentation of key priorities.
• Manage the project budget and timeline, ensuring delivery by 24 August 2026.
• Travel to Australia if required to conduct face‑to‑face activities.

Required profile

• Proven experience designing and delivering workshops for community or harm‑reduction groups.
• Experience running group consultations both in person and online.
• Strong background in analysis and report writing for advocacy or policy change.
• Deep understanding of harm‑reduction principles and Australian alcohol and other drug treatment systems.
• Technical expertise in policy, advocacy, systems development, strategic planning or training.
• Ability to deliver the project within budget and on schedule.
