Construction Lawyer – In‑house (Melbourne)

About the role

BESIX Watpac is looking for an experienced Construction Lawyer to join its Melbourne office. Working closely with the Victoria and South Australia construction business units, you will provide legal advice, manage contracts and help mitigate risks across a range of building and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Interpret and administer construction contracts, advising the business on contractual obligations.
• Identify legal risks, recommend risk‑management measures and support dispute avoidance.
• Prepare and amend head‑contract schedules, special conditions and template agreements.
• Participate in tender, contract negotiations and dispute‑resolution discussions.
• Review and respond to subcontractor and consultant departures from standard agreements.
• Draft and amend confidentiality agreements and memoranda of understanding.
• Assist in managing formal legal disputes, coordinating with external counsel as required.

Required profile

• Law degree with a current practising certificate (or ability to obtain one).
• 3‑7 years post‑qualification experience in construction law, preferably with front‑end contract exposure.
• Strong communication and influencing skills, able to build relationships at all business levels.
• Logical problem‑solving ability applied to both theoretical and practical issues.
