About the role
The Housing Industry Association is seeking a Compliance & Contracts Adviser to provide practical, solutions‑focused advice to its members across a broad range of compliance matters. This role offers exposure to real‑world issues faced by builders, designers and contractors, helping small building businesses operate confidently and compliantly.
Key responsibilities
- Advise members by phone and email on employment and industrial relations, building contracts and administration, dispute resolution, work health and safety, and builder registration and licensing.
- Develop practical resources that guide builders and subcontractors in understanding their contracts and compliance obligations.
- Support and engage with members through committees, meetings and events.
- Assist with training sessions and presentations on key business compliance topics.
- Collaborate with experienced professionals on policy and advocacy initiatives.
- Gain exposure to a wide range of compliance issues across the residential building industry.
Required profile
- Genuine interest in helping people and small businesses.
- Strong research and communication skills with practical problem‑solving ability.
- Ability to convey complex advice clearly and pragmatically to diverse stakeholders.
- Capability to work independently and as part of a geographically dispersed team.
- Tertiary qualification in legal, industrial relations, construction, or a related discipline.
- Current legal practising certificate or ability to obtain one (desirable, not essential).
- Knowledge of workplace relations law and/or construction law (desirable, not essential).
