Commissioning Engineer – Communication and Networking

About the role

The Commissioning Engineer – Communication & Networking will lead testing, commissioning, integration and troubleshooting of communication and networking systems for 500 kV substations and transmission networks within the Central‑West Orana Renewable Energy Zone project.

Key responsibilities

• Commission and troubleshoot fibre‑optic and Ethernet LANs, process‑bus networks and IEC 61850‑based station communication systems.
• Validate redundancy schemes, GOOSE messaging, Sampled Value communication and network performance against cyber‑security standards (IEC 62351).
• Configure and test SDH/SONET multiplexers, MPLS‑TP networks, IP/MPLS routers, Ethernet switches, microwave and optical transmission equipment.
• Support integration with EMS/SCADA control centres and substation automation systems (SAS) across multi‑vendor IEDs.

Required profile

• 5–10 years commissioning experience in EHV (220 kV‑500 kV) substations.
• Degree in Electrical Engineering with proven digital substation commissioning background.
• Experience on greenfield transmission projects and renewable‑energy integration.

Required skills

• IEC 61850, GOOSE, Sampled Value protocols.
• Fiber‑optic network installation and configuration.
• SDH/SONET, MPLS‑TP, IP/MPLS, Ethernet switching, microwave and optical transmission systems.
• Cyber‑security validation, firewall configuration and IEC 62351 compliance.
