Cloud Platform Engineer

About the role

Flybuys, a rewards program with over 10 million Australian members, is hiring a Cloud Platform Engineer. The engineer builds, operates and continuously improves secure, reliable and cost-effective cloud platforms that let Flybuys teams deliver services safely and efficiently, using automation, infrastructure as code and reusable platform capabilities across AWS environments.

Key responsibilities

• Build and improve secure, scalable AWS platform capabilities using infrastructure as code and automated delivery.
• Operate and enhance cloud infrastructure, container platforms, application hosting and supporting tooling.
• Improve reliability through observability, service-level objectives, resilience patterns, disaster recovery and incident response.
• Identify and remediate cloud security risks, vulnerabilities and compliance gaps with security and application teams.
• Optimise cloud costs and capacity through architecture, lifecycle management, tagging and usage insights.
• Maintain secure CI/CD pipelines, runners and deployment workflows.
• Create internal tools, standards and reusable patterns, and coach application teams in AWS operational excellence.
• Use approved AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly, join the on-call roster and take part in incident reviews.

Required profile

• At least 5 years' experience in cloud, platform, DevOps or a similar engineering role, with hands-on management of AWS production environments.
• Tertiary qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent industry experience.
• Experience in complex, cross-functional Agile teams, building automation, internal tools, infrastructure pipelines and release processes.
• AWS certification such as Solutions Architect Associate or DevOps Engineer Professional is desirable.

Required skills

• Strong AWS knowledge, including CloudFront, EC2, S3, ECS, EKS, RDS, SNS, SQS, Lambda and Step Functions.
• Infrastructure as code with AWS CloudFormation and AWS CDK.
• Container operations, CI/CD, Git workflows and observability with Datadog.
• Proficiency in at least one language such as TypeScript, Python, Go or Java.
• GitLab CI pipelines, Docker, ECS or EKS.
