Clinical Nurse – Perioperative

About the role

The Clinical Nurse in the Gladstone Perioperative Unit is a registered nurse who provides advanced, autonomous clinical care across elective and emergency surgery pathways. This role combines direct patient care with leadership, education, and research responsibilities to ensure safe, high‑quality outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver safe, high‑quality perioperative patient care and coordinate the patient journey from pre‑assessment to discharge.
• Lead clinical decision‑making and act as a mentor for nursing staff across all levels.
• Develop, facilitate and evaluate specialist education for patients, families and clinical staff.
• Contribute to service excellence through participation in research and quality‑improvement projects.
• Assume leadership duties in the absence of senior nursing team members.

Required profile

• Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) as a Registered Nurse.
• Relevant nursing qualification (preferred but not mandatory).
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.
• Commitment to ongoing professional development and adherence to vaccine requirements.

• Hourly rate of $57.48 – $61.55 plus 12.75% employer superannuation and 17.5% leave loading.
