Clinical Nurse Grade 6 - Mental Health / AODS

About the role

Mackay Base Hospital is seeking a Clinical Nurse Grade 6 to join its Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AODS) team on a six-week contract from 9 November to 20 December 2026. The role delivers specialist assessment, intervention and case management for clients facing alcohol and other drug-related challenges, working Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist AODS assessment and intervention in a dedicated mental health unit
• Provide community-based case management and coordinate aftercare for vulnerable clients

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in AODS assessment and treatment delivery
• Current driver's licence (essential for community-based work)
• Strong mental health nursing background with the ability to work autonomously and collaboratively
• Sound understanding of mental health legislation and duty of care in a regulated environment

Preferred qualifications

• Registered Nurse qualification with current AHPRA registration
• Counselling and assessment qualifications or equivalent experience
• Familiarity with the Mental Health Act 2016 and CHIMA database systems
