Casual Venue Technician

About the role

The City of Busselton is recruiting a casual Venue Technician for its Technical Services team, supporting the backstage and technical operations at Saltwater Busselton, a multi-use venue with an art gallery, theatre and conference suite overlooking Geographe Bay. The role covers lighting, audio, staging and AV for theatre shows, conferences, community events and gallery exhibitions, working closely with hirers. Pay is up to $51.60 per hour inclusive of 24% casual loading; hours are ad hoc and vary between day and evening shifts, including weekends.

Key responsibilities

• Assist venue hirers and event organisers with technical requirements and deliver high-quality event support.
• Rig and operate lighting, audio and AV systems, and set up staging, furniture and equipment.
• Help install gallery exhibitions and assist the curator.
• Maintain communication with hirers, staff and contractors, and liaise with Technical Services and Front of House teams.
• Complete event risk assessments and follow WHS procedures, and help with equipment maintenance and compliance checks.
• Follow production schedules, complete allocated tasks within rostered timeframes and help with post-event reports.
• Support the Head of Technical Services with general administration and uphold the City's values and customer service standards.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years' experience as a theatre or event technician.
• Proficiency in computer systems, network maintenance and computing skills.
• Proficiency in lighting, audio, staging or gallery operations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, a positive attitude and flexibility.
• Current C Class driver's licence, proof of right to work in Australia, White Card and Work Safely at Heights certificate.
• Pre-employment medical screening (basic and functional capacity) arranged by HR.
