Casual Assistant in Nursing

About the role

Maitland Hospital is looking for a Casual Assistant in Nursing to join its Medical and Surgical Acute Care team. You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team, supporting Registered Nurses and other healthcare professionals in delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care to patients with medical and surgical needs. The position is casual, with up to 38 hours per week, and applications are reviewed on a weekly basis.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with person-centred care to patients under the direction and delegation of a Registered Nurse.
• Support patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, grooming, mobility, nutrition and comfort.
• Observe patients and promptly report changes in their condition, behaviour or wellbeing to the supervising Registered Nurse.
• Help maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for patients.
• Communicate respectfully with patients, families, carers and the multidisciplinary team.
• Follow policies, procedures and infection prevention and control practices.

Required profile

• Relevant qualifications and/or experience as an Assistant in Nursing.
• Experience in a healthcare setting, ideally in medical and surgical acute care.
• Ability to work under the direction of a Registered Nurse and to report changes in patients' conditions.
• Commitment to patient safety, infection prevention and control, and to working within delegated responsibilities.
• Australian citizenship, Australian permanent residency, or a New Zealand passport; temporary visa holders may only be offered employment if no suitable local candidate is found.
