Canteen Assistant (Part‑time, Temporary)

About the role

We are looking for a proactive and organised Canteen Assistant to support the daily operation of the school café at Yeronga State High School. The role is part‑time, temporary (0.66 FTE) and involves serving staff and students during early‑morning and morning‑tea periods, Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and serve food and beverages according to the daily menu plan.
• Provide friendly counter service, operate the cash register and handle cash transactions.
• Clear tables, clean service areas and maintain a hygienic environment in line with food‑safety standards.
• Store, label and handle food safely, ensuring compliance with health regulations.
• Report any equipment faults promptly to the Canteen Supervisor using the required paperwork.

Required profile

• Reliable, punctual and able to work independently within a school setting.
• Good communication skills with students, staff and external suppliers.
• Ability to follow written procedures and menu plans accurately.

Required skills

• Cash register operation.
• Basic food preparation and handling.
• Cleaning and sanitation practices.
