Aviation Safety Specialist

About the role

Northrop Grumman Australia is looking for an Aviation Safety Specialist to join its Mission Assurance team and support the Aviation Safety Management System (AvSMS). The role helps deliver aviation safety outcomes that support critical Defence capabilities, ensuring compliance, managing risk and driving continuous improvement across complex aviation programs. It involves travel of about 10% of the time.

Key responsibilities

• Support the implementation and continuous improvement of the AvSMS
• Conduct aviation safety audits, investigations and assurance activities
• Monitor regulatory compliance across Defence and aviation programs
• Analyse safety data, identify risks and report on safety performance
• Facilitate safety meetings, training and stakeholder engagement
• Promote a strong safety culture that supports mission success

Required profile

• Australian citizenship is required; international traffic in arms regulations apply, so nationality may affect suitability
• Ability to obtain and maintain AGSVA NV1 security clearance
• Experience in an aviation safety role within a regulated aviation environment
• Experience conducting audits, investigations and risk assessments
• Experience within Defence, aerospace or contract support environments
• Qualifications in aviation maintenance, engineering, safety management, auditing or incident investigation are highly regarded

Required skills

• Knowledge of CASA, DASR, EASA, EMAR or similar aviation regulatory frameworks
• Strong communication, analytical and stakeholder engagement skills
