Associate, Tax Policy & Advocacy

About the role

The Tax Institute is looking for an Associate, Tax Policy & Advocacy to help shape Australia's tax system by working with government stakeholders and the profession. The role sits in the Tax Policy & Advocacy team, reporting to the Head of Tax & Legal, Julie Abdalla, and suits someone curious, motivated and eager to develop professionally. Flexible working is offered with 2 days in the Sydney office.

Key responsibilities

• Draft submissions, representations and briefings on complex tax issues
• Track developments in tax law, policy and administration and help formulate The Tax Institute's position
• Support technical committees, working groups and government consultations
• Build relationships across The Tax Institute and its networks, including members, government agencies and regulators

Required profile

• 3+ years' tax experience in a law firm, accounting firm or similar environment
• Degree in Law or Accounting, with strong technical knowledge of Australian tax law
• Strong interest in tax policy and the development of good tax law
• Experience engaging with committees, boards or government
• Postgraduate study in Law, Tax or a related field, or willingness to undertake further studies
• Full working rights in Australia

Required skills

• Experience drafting technical advice, submissions or similar material
• Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly, in writing and in person
• Willingness to take ownership of the team's activities

What we offer

• Salary of $125,000 to $150,000 plus 12% superannuation
• Flexible working with 2 days in the Sydney office
