Associate Professor – Counselling

About the role

The School of Law and Society at the University of the Sunshine Coast is seeking an accomplished Associate Professor in Counselling. This senior academic position will shape the future of counselling education, drive research excellence, and strengthen industry and community partnerships.

Key responsibilities

• Provide academic leadership across undergraduate and postgraduate counselling programmes.
• Design and evolve research‑informed curricula aligned with professional standards.
• Develop and lead a focused research agenda, securing external funding and producing high‑quality publications.
• Supervise Higher Degree by Research candidates, early‑career researchers and academics.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with industry, community and professional bodies.
• Contribute to school and university governance, strategy and academic leadership initiatives.
• Model inclusive, ethical and collegial leadership to enhance academic culture.

Required profile

• Established record of scholarly achievement in counselling or related fields.
• Demonstrated experience in curriculum development and teaching at university level.
• Successful track record of obtaining external research funding.
• Experience supervising research students and mentoring early‑career academics.
• Strong engagement with professional, industry and community stakeholders.
