Associate Professor – Academic Leadership & Student Experience

About the role

The University of Melbourne seeks a senior academic leader to shape the student and teacher experience for Melbourne Online. This part‑time, fixed‑term role (0.8 FTE) will influence cross‑faculty curriculum design, online pedagogy and the overall quality of digital learning.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the evolution of Melbourne Online’s student and teacher experience strategy using research, analytics and best practice.
• Build and maintain influential relationships with faculties, schools and central academic governance to ensure confidence and delivery partnership.
• Act as senior escalation point for complex curriculum and delivery issues, providing coaching to academic and design teams.
• Oversee academic quality frameworks, ensuring compliance with accreditation and regulation while driving pedagogical innovation.
• Contribute to Melbourne Online’s leadership team, shaping strategy, culture and business performance across the portfolio.

Required profile

• PhD in education, learning design, teaching and learning, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated academic performance and credibility at Associate Professor or Professor level.
• Extensive experience in higher‑education curriculum and student experience design, especially for complex, multi‑faculty programmes.
• Proven ability to translate strategic intent into scalable learning designs for postgraduate students, informed by data and learner analytics.
• Commitment to championing student success and lifelong learning in online and blended environments.
