Associate Lawyer – Abuse Law

About the role

Maurice Blackburn is seeking an Associate to join its Abuse Law team in Melbourne on a full‑time permanent basis. You will deliver high‑quality legal work for survivors of abuse, balancing practical commercial insight with a strong commitment to social justice.

Key responsibilities

• Engage directly with clients, taking detailed instructions and building trust‑based relationships.
• Review and interpret complex records, including medical and allied‑health documentation.
• Draft clear written communications, briefs, and high‑quality court documents.
• Liaise with medical experts and allied‑health professionals to prepare evidence.
• Attend procedural hearings, represent the team in court, and collaborate with barristers to prepare matters for hearing.

Required profile

• Lawyer with a strong client‑service focus and a commitment to social justice.
• At least 5 years post‑admission experience (PAE) preferred.
• Valid practising certificate in Victoria.
• Prior experience in personal injury, medical negligence or litigation environments.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build relationships.
• Independent worker who also thrives in a team setting.
• Highly organised with strong attention to detail and time‑management abilities.
• Knowledge of procedural rules relevant to personal injury practice in Victoria.
