Associate Engineer – Drainage & Flooding

About the role

SMEC, a global engineering consultancy, is seeking an experienced Associate Engineer specialising in Drainage & Flooding to join its Sydney office. This permanent position offers the chance to work on major transport infrastructure projects across NSW and nationally, providing expert advice and leading technical delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver drainage design and flood modelling for TfNSW and other major projects.
• Lead technical delivery, ensuring solutions meet the highest standards and client expectations.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary teams, managing budgets and schedules.
• Prepare and review high‑quality technical reports with minimal revision.
• Utilise 12d Dynamic Drainage Analysis for complex hydraulic assessments.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or related) – CPEng/RPEQ preferred or in progress.
• 7+ years delivering drainage packages for TfNSW projects.
• Proven experience leading projects within budget and time constraints.
• Strong knowledge of Austroads Part 5, 5A, 5B and the Australian Rainfall and Runoff Guideline 2019.
• Proactive, client‑focused mindset with excellent stakeholder management.
