Assistant Transport Manager

About the role

The Midfield Group is seeking an Assistant Transport Manager to support its transport team in Warrnambool, Victoria. You will help ensure safe, compliant and efficient movement of livestock and related products from paddock to plate, working closely with drivers, workshop staff and senior management.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily transport operations, ensuring fleet movements are safe, compliant and on schedule.
• Plan, allocate and execute loads to maximise efficiency and minimise delays.
• Serve as the primary point of contact for drivers, providing direction, support and performance oversight.
• Monitor compliance with fatigue management, Chain of Responsibility and other safety regulations.
• Track live operations, resolve issues such as delays, breakdowns or disruptions, and liaise with the workshop to prioritise maintenance.
• Report, record and action vehicle defects promptly to maintain roadworthiness.
• Identify and address inefficiencies in fuel usage, idle time and empty runs.
• Maintain accurate operational records, incident reports and performance metrics.
• Step into the Transport Manager role when required to ensure continuity.

Required profile

• Proven experience in transport, logistics or fleet operations, preferably in a fast‑paced environment.
• Leadership or supervisory experience managing drivers or operational teams.
• Strong understanding of transport compliance, fatigue management and Chain of Responsibility.
• Ability to monitor real‑time operations and solve problems under pressure.
• Effective communication skills with drivers, workshop personnel and management.
