Assistant Gardener / Handyperson

About the role

Shenton College is building a pool of Assistant Gardeners / Handypersons to support the maintenance of its campus grounds and facilities throughout the 2026/2027 school year. Working under the Head Gardener, you will help create a safe, attractive and welcoming environment for students, staff and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine grounds maintenance including mowing, pruning, weeding and mulching.
• Care for a variety of plants and garden beds, ensuring healthy growth.
• Operate and maintain gardening tools and equipment safely.
• Carry out minor repairs to campus infrastructure and garden structures.
• Assist with seasonal planting, irrigation checks and pest management as required.

Required profile

• Reliable, self‑motivated individual with a strong work ethic.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
• Previous experience in gardening, grounds maintenance or a handyperson role is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Knowledge of gardening practices and plant care.
• Proficiency with gardening equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers, power tools).
• Basic handyperson abilities for minor repairs and tool upkeep.
