Assistant Farm Manager – Dairy Farm, Simpson

About the role

Aurora Dairies is seeking an Assistant Farm Manager for a dairy farm in Simpson, about 40 minutes from Colac in South West Victoria. The farm covers about 265 hectares, milks 550 Friesian cows through a 50-bail rotary shed with ACRs and auto teat spray, uses GEA Dairy Plan for herd recording and is predominantly pasture-based with grain fed in the dairy. It is 80% autumn and 20% spring calving, starting in March and late August. Candidates without full long-term Australian working rights, including those on employer-sponsored or working holiday visas, will not be considered.

Key responsibilities

• Support the farm manager as second in charge.
• Drive and uphold animal health and safe operating procedures.
• Handle herd management and nutrition, including calving, hospital herd care, AI/mating planning, dairy shed work and more.
• Manage irrigation and pasture.
• Supervise staff.
• Operate machinery and carry out repairs and maintenance.

Required profile

• Extensive dairy industry experience is required for this management role.
• Tertiary qualification in Agriculture or a related field is desired.
• Commitment to a safe workplace, reliability, punctuality and ability to take responsibility.
• Good work ethic, positive attitude, leadership skills and team player.
