Assistant Associate Dean, Data Science & AI Discipline

About the role

The Assistant Associate Dean (AAD) is a senior leadership position within the School of Computing Technologies, responsible for shaping the strategy, research performance and growth of the Data Science & Artificial Intelligence (DSAI) Discipline. Working closely with the Associate Dean and the School leadership team, the AAD will provide strategic direction, support staff development and represent the discipline across the university and external partners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic and people leadership for the DSAI Discipline, aligning academic and research objectives with the School’s vision.
• Lead and expand research programmes, fostering an inclusive and high‑performing research culture.
• Build and maintain productive collaborations with internal units and external industry or research partners.
• Contribute to teaching and curriculum development to ensure outstanding student outcomes.
• Represent the Discipline in university governance, committees and external forums.
• Drive innovation, growth and impact across education and research initiatives.

Required profile

• Proven academic leadership experience with a track record of building capability and delivering strategic objectives.
• Established and respected research profile in a Data Science or AI‑related field.
• Strong record of innovative teaching and curriculum contribution.
• Deep understanding of industry trends and the evolving higher‑education landscape.
• Strategic thinking ability to translate organisational priorities into actionable outcomes.
• Highly developed interpersonal, communication and influencing skills.
• Collaborative, collegiate approach with a history of working across teams and stakeholders.
• Demonstrated capacity to foster positive change and excellence in teaching, research and academic performance.

• Fixed‑term 3‑year contract with the possibility of progression to a senior academic appointment.
• Remuneration aligned with Academic Level C, D or E (AUD 146,897 – 227,847 per annum).
