Assistant Accountant

About the role

Gardner Vaughan, a leading South-east Queensland builder-developer, is looking for a detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join its financial operations. Reporting to the Financial Controller with secondary support to the CFO, the role manages overhead entities, processes fortnightly payroll and maintains financial controls, while providing backup accounting support for construction and development entities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage overhead accounting, reconciliations, balance sheet reviews, budget tracking and statutory returns
• Deliver fortnightly payroll and handle associated compliance, payroll tax and superannuation obligations
• Oversee overhead invoice processing, payment runs, rent schedules and intercompany recharges
• Act as key accounting backup for active construction projects and SPVs
• Partner with project managers, contract administrators and site supervisors on financial queries

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on accounting experience
• Practical payroll experience is essential
• Strong understanding of general accounting, GST/BAS requirements and Queensland construction-sector regulations
• High attention to detail, strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach
