Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Pallas Group is seeking a motivated Assistant Accountant to join its Sydney Head Office in Double Bay. This position supports Fortis, the property development arm, and provides exposure to a wide range of accounting and finance activities within a fast‑growing property development business.

Key responsibilities

• Reconcile monthly corporate credit card statements and match each transaction with tax invoices and receipts.
• Process employee expense claims, ensuring valid receipts and approvals are attached.
• Audit claims and credit‑card charges against company expense policies to prevent unauthorised spending.
• Follow up with staff and managers to resolve missing receipts, unapproved expenses, or coding errors.
• Accurately code and enter approved expense data into the accounting system, separating claim categories and extracting GST where applicable.
• Support month‑end and year‑end closing by generating expense reports, tracking outstanding claims, and resolving reconciliation variances.
• Maintain organized, compliant digital filing systems for all expense documentation.
• Conduct regular bank, payroll, and inter‑entity reconciliations to identify missing entries or duplicate payments.
• Assist the finance team with general accounting and administrative tasks.
• Recommend improvements to internal financial controls, procedures, and accounting software.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
• At least 1 year of experience in an Assistant Accountant, Accounts Officer, Bookkeeper or similar role.
• Proven experience preparing bank reconciliations and supporting month‑end reporting.
• Hands‑on experience across accounts payable and receivable with strong attention to detail.

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Word.
• Experience with Xero accounting software.
• Experience with MYOB (Acumatica) accounting software.
