Assistant Accountant

About the role

MED-EL Australasia is seeking an Assistant Accountant to join its Sydney accounts team. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will support a range of financial operations while gaining exposure to diverse accounting activities.

Key responsibilities

• Manage end‑to‑end invoicing workflows to hospitals and clinics, including claim submission and follow‑up through private health funds and the NDIS framework.
• Handle debtor management with proactive follow‑ups on outstanding accounts and query resolution.
• Process a small volume of third‑party vendor invoices, run weekly payment cycles and perform vendor reconciliations.
• Prepare monthly sales reports and conduct analysis.
• Allocate bank account and inter‑company payable entries.
• Assist the Finance Manager with month‑end processes, including sales reporting and credit‑card expenditure analysis.
• Support external audits, the annual budgeting process, financial forecasting and statutory reporting.

Required profile

• Degree qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in an accounts‑related role.
• Proven experience with billing and account reconciliations.
• Intermediate to advanced Excel skills (formulas, VLOOKUP, basic pivot tables).
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Customer‑focused, able to work autonomously and meet invoicing/reporting deadlines.
• Experience with MS Dynamics NAV or a similar ERP system; health‑industry exposure is a plus.
