Assistant Accountant

About the role

Speedpanel is seeking a motivated Assistant Accountant to join its Finance team in Melbourne. The role supports a wide range of finance, reporting, payroll and compliance activities, working closely with the Financial Controller and CFO while building relationships across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain accurate accounting records in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards.
• Process fortnightly payroll accurately and within required timeframes.
• Assist the Financial Controller with month‑end close, balance‑sheet reconciliations and fixed‑asset register management.
• Support the annual audit, budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis activities.
• Contribute to the preparation of the company’s Sustainability Report and continuous improvement of accounting systems.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline.
• 2–3 years of experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Strong attention to detail, time‑management and problem‑solving abilities.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work with diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Intermediate to advanced Excel for data analysis and reporting.
• Experience with accounting software such as MYOB, Xero and Microsoft 365.
• Familiarity with Rippling payroll system (advantageous but not essential).
• Knowledge of general ledger codes, cost centres, reconciliations and Australian Accounting Standards (AASB/IFRS).
