Assistant Accountant

About the role

The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel in Hobart, is seeking a detail‑oriented Assistant Accountant to join its Finance team. Reporting to the Director of Finance, you will support daily financial operations, ensure accurate record‑keeping, and help deliver timely reports and reconciliations in a luxury hospitality environment.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare daily, weekly and monthly financial reports.
• Reconcile bank accounts, balance‑sheet items and general‑ledger transactions.
• Process accounts payable and accounts receivable accurately.
• Assist with month‑end and year‑end close activities.
• Verify revenue postings, cashier transactions and hotel operating reports.
• Support payroll processing and related reconciliations.
• Maintain compliance with Marriott policies and accounting standards.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis.
• Prepare journal entries with supporting documentation.
• Provide financial information to department leaders and support audit processes.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years of experience in accounting, finance or bookkeeping.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related field (or currently studying).
• Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Excellent analytical, problem‑solving and organisational skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Full Australian working rights.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Experience with financial systems.
• Familiarity with hotel accounting systems (highly regarded).
