Anaesthetics Advanced Trainee / Provisional Fellow (2027)

About the role

Barwon Health is seeking an Anaesthetics Advanced Trainee or Provisional Fellow for 2027 to deliver high‑quality anaesthesia, peri‑operative medicine and pain management across its surgical and critical‑care directorate. The position is temporary full‑time (6 or 12 months) and offers exposure to a broad range of clinical services in a supportive, high‑performing team.

Key responsibilities

• Pre‑assessment and optimisation of patients prior to planned anaesthesia.
• Perform epidural anaesthesia for labour after achieving epidural accreditation.
• Manage airways outside the operating theatre after two years of training, except in time‑critical emergencies.
• Assist and eventually lead operating‑theatre and off‑floor anaesthetic cases under consultant backup.
• Provide general anaesthesia, sedation, regional and local techniques, pain medicine, peri‑operative care, resuscitation, trauma and crisis management.

Required profile

• ANZCA accredited or eligible.
• Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to improving patient care.
• Willingness to work 86 hours per fortnight in a full‑time capacity.

Required skills

• Regional anaesthesia and ultrasound proficiency.
• Transoesophageal echocardiography (TEE) experience.
• Cardiac anaesthesia knowledge.
• Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPET) familiarity.
• Epidural technique accreditation.
