Advanced Trainee – Sexual Health Medicine

About the role

We are seeking an Advanced Trainee in Sexual Health Medicine to join the Hunter New England Health network at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle. This temporary part‑time position (24 hours per week) offers a structured training pathway towards Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of Physicians (Sexual Health Medicine) or Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical management for patients attending HNELHD sexual health services.
• Deliver training, advice and consultancy to internal and external agencies on sexual health matters.
• Contribute to public health strategies aimed at reducing HIV, STIs and related morbidity.
• Participate in multidisciplinary teams across the HNELHD network, including rotations at regional hospitals.
• Engage in research and professional development activities aligned with the sexual health curriculum.

Required profile

• Medical degree (MBBS or equivalent) and current registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
• Eligibility for Advanced Training in Sexual Health Medicine (completion of RACP Basic Training or equivalent) or as an extended skills placement towards FRACGP.
• Demonstrated interest in sexual health and experience working with priority populations such as youth, MSM, people who inject drugs, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, and persons living with HIV.
• Ability to work independently in a complex healthcare environment with strong time‑management and analytical skills.
