Addiction Medicine Specialist

About the role

The Department of Health is seeking an experienced Addiction Medicine Specialist to provide high‑quality clinical care and expertise across Alice Springs and surrounding Central Australian communities. This position will lead the delivery of alcohol and other drug services, ensuring efficient and effective treatment pathways.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with substance use disorders.
• Develop and implement evidence‑based protocols and service models for alcohol and other drug programs.
• Provide leadership, mentorship, and supervision to multidisciplinary health teams.
• Collaborate with community partners, government agencies, and Indigenous health services to improve outreach and continuity of care.
• Participate in research, audit, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Medical degree with specialist registration in Addiction Medicine.
• Significant experience in clinical practice within alcohol and drug services.
• Demonstrated ability to work in remote or regional settings.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
