Accountant – Project Finance

About the role

CPB Contractors is seeking an experienced Accountant to join the project delivery team on a large infrastructure project in South Brisbane. Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Project Accountant will partner with the business on all financial matters, providing information and advice to project stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare monthly and ad‑hoc project reports accurately and on time.
• Process month‑end activities, including journals and accruals.
• Manage project forecasting, overhead forecasts and consolidation of direct cost forecasts.
• Support payment claim preparation and financial reconciliations.
• Assist internal and external audit requirements, ensuring compliance with governance standards.
• Maintain project accounting systems such as chart of accounts and budget information.
• Develop and support automated, systems‑driven reporting.
• Provide financial insights to the project and commercial teams.

Required profile

• CA or CPA qualified, or currently working towards qualification.
• Proven experience in project accounting, management accounting or a similar finance role.
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting and cost control.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced project environment.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.

Required skills

• JD Edwards (highly regarded).
• Advanced Excel skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Experience with ERP systems.
