Accountant – Build Finance Function in Melbourne

About the role
BC Game is looking for its first finance hire in Melbourne. You will be the sole accountant in Australia, working closely with the established overseas finance team to set up and run the local finance function from day one.
Key responsibilities
- Own the full set of accounts for the Australian entity, including journal entries, ledgers, reconciliations and month‑end close.
- Manage accounts payable, accounts receivable and bank reconciliations to ensure records match actual assets.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements and provide analysis and recommendations to management.
- Report and consolidate financial data to the group finance team and support internal and external audits.
- Run end‑to‑end payroll for the Melbourne team, handling PAYG withholding, superannuation and Single Touch Payroll reporting to the ATO.
- Process employee expense reimbursements and establish clear reimbursement standards.
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS), Instalment Activity Statements and manage GST compliance.
- Handle payroll tax registration, superannuation compliance, Fringe Benefits Tax and ensure adherence to Australian Accounting Standards, the Corporations Act, ATO requirements and Fair Work obligations.
- Lead the end‑of‑financial‑year process and coordinate with external accountants, auditors and the ATO.
- Manage intercompany and cross‑border transactions, including foreign‑exchange considerations.
Required profile
- Hands‑on, detail‑oriented professional who enjoys building finance processes from the ground up.
- Experience working with Australian accounting regulations and tax compliance.
- Ability to collaborate with an international finance team while taking ownership of local responsibilities.
Required skills
- Knowledge of Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) and the Corporations Act.
- Familiarity with ATO reporting requirements, including BAS, GST, PAYG and Single Touch Payroll.
- Understanding of payroll tax, superannuation, and Fringe Benefits Tax compliance.
