About the role

An opportunity has opened up for an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Hospital Liaison Officer (identified) to join Gold Coast Health, a 14,000-strong team providing health care to people on the Gold Coast and in northern New South Wales. The role is temporary full-time, up to six months with possible extension, and is open to Indigenous applicants under the genuine occupational requirement of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991.

Key responsibilities

• Liaise with multidisciplinary teams and contribute to the care of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
• Advocate for patients and families in the hospital environment
• Translate and interpret patient treatment modalities using a culturally appropriate framework
• Be a role model of culturally appropriate behaviour, including co-facilitating cultural awareness education

Required profile

• Genuine occupational requirement: the incumbent must be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander community
• Paid Blue Card (working with children check)
• Evidence of vaccination against measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, pertussis and hepatitis B, or ability to stay vaccinated; TB screening
• Declaration of any serious discipline history
• Criminal history screening required for new employees (cost covered by GCH); a relevant qualification is well regarded though not mandatory
