4-Day IHC Educator (ECEC) - Autism Support

About the role

An experienced, patient and engaging educator is sought to provide care for an 8-year-old child in a home-based setting in Blackburn North, Victoria. The child is autistic (Level 3) with ADHD, a PDA profile and significant anxiety, and has high support needs centred on his demand-response system; he speaks fluently and reasons well but is highly sensitive to demand, sensory load and being hurried or directed. The role is four days per week, with the educator choosing which four days, and ideally four full days with flexible start and finish times.

Key responsibilities

• Support the child's daily routine and plan fun, developmentally appropriate experiences based on his interests and strengths (science, technology, reading, writing stories, general knowledge, rock climbing and outdoor play).
• Stay calm and steady when challenges arise, read the child's regulation before it tips, and use positive, strength-based strategies to build problem-solving, independence and emotional wellbeing.
• Support the child's learning alongside his mother, who is a registered teacher and holds full responsibility for his learning programme; the education component is not delivered alone.
• During before and after school care, provide appropriate supervision and care for two additional siblings who may be present.

Required profile

• Experience with neurodivergent children, with PDA experience highly regarded; understanding of autonomy and nervous systems matters more.
• Working towards or holding a Cert III in Early Childhood Education and Care or another IHC-relevant ACECQA-approved qualification (e.g. Bachelor Primary Education) and registered with the relevant state authority.
• At least three references.
• WWCC, police check, CPR and HLTAID012 First Aid.
• Car and driver's licence.
• Willingness to commit for at least 12 months and full working rights in Australia (visas such as 190 or 186 may be considered; 417 and 462 visa holders should not apply).

What we offer

• Pay of $41.94-$47.28 per hour including tax and super, depending on level L1-L3; insurance and workcover costs are covered by the employer, who also processes tax and super.
