Water Supply Operator – Northern Operations

About the role

The Water Supply Operator supports Melbourne Water’s Northern Operations team, ensuring reliable delivery of clean water to over five million residents. Reporting to the Lead Operator, this permanent full‑time position involves day‑to‑day and emergency management of water supply assets such as reservoirs, treatment plants, pumping stations and transfer mains.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and monitor water supply infrastructure using remote‑monitoring and control systems.
• Respond to operational incidents and emergencies, documenting actions and outcomes.
• Perform routine measurements, take accurate numerical readings and maintain log sheets.
• Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to optimise system performance.

Required profile

• Certificate III or higher in Water/Wastewater Industry Operations, or equivalent trade experience.
• Knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes.
• Ability to obtain AusCheck clearance, pass a police check and complete a pre‑employment medical.

Required skills

• Experience with SCADA or similar supervisory control and data acquisition systems.
• Proficiency in taking accurate numerical measurements and recording data.
