Veterinary Surgery Resident (Small Animal Surgery)

About the role

Greencross Veterinary Hospital (GVH) is seeking a motivated veterinarian for a three-year Small Animal Surgery Residency, structured around the Fellowship requirements of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists (ANZCVS). The program is based at the University of Melbourne's Werribee campus, combining the educational culture of a university teaching hospital with the varied caseload of a busy specialist referral centre.

Key responsibilities

• Train alongside two specialist small animal surgeons, gaining supervised experience across orthopaedic, soft tissue, neurological and emergency surgical cases with progressively increasing responsibility.
• Collaborate with specialists in anaesthesia, internal medicine, neurology, oncology and diagnostic imaging, supported by a 24-hour Emergency and Critical Care department.
• Take part in weekly multidisciplinary case rounds and regular journal club, with protected teaching time during working hours.
• Receive direct surgical mentorship, clinical discussion and constructive feedback.
• Teach University of Melbourne veterinary students and support research, presentations and publications required for Fellowship training.

Required profile

• Veterinarians with strong clinical foundations and enthusiasm for surgery.
• Commitment to specialist training; eligibility for veterinary registration in Victoria is required.
• Previous internship or referral experience is highly regarded; ANZCVS membership and research experience are advantageous but not essential.
