Veterinary Nurse

About the role

Brisbane Veterinary Specialist Centre (BVSC), one of Queensland's premier specialist veterinary hospitals, is hiring a Veterinary Nurse for its hospital and emergency care. The role sits alongside experienced specialists and emergency clinicians, covering surgery, internal medicine, oncology, emergency care and diagnostic imaging. Full-time, part-time and casual positions are available; day shifts only, full time over 4 days.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to hospitalised patients
• Assist with diagnostics, procedures and treatments
• Monitor patients before, during and after procedures
• Administer medications and treatments
• Maintain accurate patient records
• Support infection control and hospital hygiene
• Communicate professionally with clients and colleagues

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent)
• Minimum 3 years of vet nursing experience
• Strong clinical skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills
• Ability to stay calm and organised in a busy environment
• Proactive attitude, willingness to learn and compassion for patients, clients and colleagues
• Specialist or emergency experience is highly regarded

Physical requirements

• Lifting, moving, transferring and repositioning animals of varying sizes and weights
• Handling and restraining large, painful, distressed or non-ambulatory patients
• Performing CPR and assisting during clinical emergencies
• Standing, walking, bending, kneeling and reaching for long periods
• Manual handling and use of required PPE
