VET Teacher - Auto Heavy (Diesel Fitting)

About the role

CQUniversity Rockhampton is recruiting a permanent, full-time VET teacher for Auto Heavy (Diesel Fitting). Experienced diesel fitters and auto heavy professionals can share their trade knowledge with apprentices through hands-on training and assessment in workshops and the classroom. Relocation support is available.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver hands-on training and assessment to apprentices in diesel fitting, drawing on real-world industry experience.
• Run practical workshops and industry-focused learning so students build the skills and confidence needed in the workforce.
• Support students in both workshop and classroom settings, including mentoring apprentices.

Required profile

• A relevant qualification in automotive heavy vehicle, mobile plant and diesel engine technology, diesel fitting engineering or similar; dual-trade candidates, especially with Auto Electrical or another complementary trade, are highly regarded.
• Current hands-on experience maintaining, diagnosing, repairing and commissioning heavy vehicles and mobile plant, including diesel engines, hydraulic systems and associated electrical and electronic systems.
• An interest in mentoring apprentices and sharing knowledge with learners.
• No teaching experience required; only a willingness to work in a structured setting with assessment, documentation and student support.
• Full Australian work rights; visa sponsorship is not available.

What we offer

• Salary of $107,697 (from $56.94 per hour) plus 17% superannuation.
• 5.4 weeks annual leave plus a paid Christmas and New Year break.
• A fully funded TAE40122 qualification while employed, with support at every step.
• Permanent position with progression to Senior VET Teacher (salary $112,033 to $119,319) once an approved teaching qualification is obtained.
• Flexible start and finish times, with prep and marking included in the paid workload.
