Tutor Suburban Rail Operator (SRO 3)

About the role

Queensland Rail is seeking a Tutor Suburban Rail Operator to join its RMC and Operations team at Bowen Hills in a permanent full-time position. The tutor delivers operational training, accreditation and reaccreditation programs for Trainee Suburban Rail Operators and Yard Coordinators, and coaches, assesses and supports them so they can safely perform rail operations. It suits an experienced rail operations professional who enjoys mentoring others.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver and support accreditation and reaccreditation programs for Suburban Rail Operators and Yard Coordinators.
• Carry out training and assessment for Shunters and Foreman Shunters in classroom and operational settings.
• Monitor trainee progression and give coaching, mentoring and constructive feedback.
• Ensure accreditation requirements are met on time and to Queensland Rail standards.
• Support operational teams by safely performing shunting duties and giving operational advice when needed.
• Maintain knowledge of yard operations, safeworking, rollingstock movements and points systems.
• Promote compliance with the Safety Management Framework and operational procedures.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of training, capability and safety.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in rail operations, including shunting, train marshalling and yard activities.
• Ability to develop, coach and assess employees in classroom and operational environments.
• Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
• Sound knowledge of Queensland Rail procedures, governance and the Safety Management Framework.
• Desirable: Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122 or equivalent).
• Desirable: experience in training, assessment, coaching or mentoring, and in rail, heavy industry, construction, mining or similar environments.
