Trainee Locomotive Driver

About the role

Pacific National is offering a structured traineeship for individuals who want to become qualified locomotive drivers. Based in Port Augusta, the program combines classroom learning with hands‑on experience in a safety‑critical rail environment.

Key responsibilities

• Complete a three‑stage traineeship that blends theoretical instruction with practical train operation.
• Prepare, manage and operate locomotives safely on live rail networks.
• Follow operational procedures and safety protocols during all train movements.
• Undertake competency‑based assessments and on‑the‑job training.

Required profile

• Strong commitment to safety and personal development.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate clearly.
• Flexibility to work rotating 24/7 shifts, including nights, weekends and periods away from home.
• Current C‑class driver’s licence and a School Certificate or equivalent.

Required skills

• Basic computer proficiency.
