Test Engineer Intern - Software Testing & QA

Study and Work is collaborating with an Australian technology company developing AI-powered digital solutions and is offering a 12-week unpaid Test Engineer internship in Melbourne. The role suits someone who wants practical experience in software testing, quality assurance and application validation, working alongside technology professionals and learning real-world QA processes.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and execute test plans, test cases and testing scenarios.
• Perform manual, functional, regression, integration and system testing.
• Identify, document, report and track software defects.
• Validate software functionality against business requirements and user expectations.
• Collaborate with developers, business analysts and product teams.
• Assist with API testing, database validation and basic performance testing where required.
• Support software quality, usability, reliability and security testing activities.
• Prepare test reports, documentation and quality assurance summaries.

Required profile

• Currently studying or recently completed a qualification in Information Technology, Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline.
• Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent attention to detail and communication skills.
• Eagerness to learn and contribute to a collaborative development environment.

Required skills

• Basic understanding of software testing methodologies and the SDLC.
• Familiarity with manual testing, test cases and defect reporting.
• Exposure to tools such as Jira, Postman, Selenium or similar testing platforms is advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of SQL, APIs or test automation is highly regarded.

The internship includes practical training and professional supervision. It is a structured 12-week unpaid internship with no guaranteed employment after completion.
