Technical Trainer for Rail & Transit Systems

About the role

Downer Rail’s Technical Trainer will develop, deliver and evaluate training programmes for staff working on rolling stock projects at the Auburn Maintenance Centre. The role supports new‑staff orientation and ensures competence for overhauls, upgrades, testing and maintenance activities.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct training needs analysis and design or source appropriate courses.
• Deliver classroom and hands‑on training, assess competence and maintain training records.
• Support orientation of new employees to meet Downer’s contractual obligations.
• Assist with failure‑reporting investigations and engineering process documentation.

Required profile

• Relevant trade qualification in mechanical and/or electrical disciplines.
• Minimum 5 years experience in a technical, preferably rail, environment.
• Willingness to obtain or hold a TAE 40116 Certificate IV in Training & Assessment.
• Understanding of VET Quality Framework and basic HR regulations.

Required skills

• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Knowledge of rolling stock systems and engineering processes.
• Experience creating, developing and delivering technical training.
• Ability to conduct failure‑reporting and investigations.
