Technical Team Lead – React & Node

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the ELMO Software Recruitment team in Melbourne as a Technical Team Lead (JavaScript) overseeing a small team of three developers. The role blends 70% leadership with 30% hands‑on development, reporting to the Engineering Manager and being accountable for technical delivery quality.

Key responsibilities

• Own AI orchestration planning for each piece of work, defining component parallelism, context, and guardrails.
• Oversee build quality, ensuring all pull requests—human or AI‑generated—meet coding, security, and architectural standards.
• Manage testing and validation, guaranteeing test coverage, automated security scanning, and non‑functional requirements such as performance and observability.
• Ensure release safety with feature‑flag strategies, progressive rollouts, and post‑deployment health monitoring.
• Lead people management: set expectations, provide coaching, conduct 1:1s, and handle performance, promotions, and recruitment.
• Drive delivery estimation, technical approach, and roadmap alignment while owning incident resolution and on‑call duties.
• Maintain application quality metrics, including defect escape rate, security vulnerability reduction, and observability.
• Ensure compliance with ELMO’s information security and privacy policies.

Required profile

• Strong hands‑on engineering background with React front‑ends and Node back‑ends.
• Deep understanding of software architecture, API design, integration patterns, and secure application design.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into precise, testable specifications.
• Experience reviewing code at scale and upholding consistent quality for both human‑written and AI‑generated code.
• Strong stakeholder communication and people‑leadership capabilities.
