Technical Director – Mechanical Engineering

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Technical Director level Mechanical Engineer to join its Building Engineering team in Melbourne. The role provides strategic leadership across multidisciplinary projects, driving technical excellence and client satisfaction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversee technical delivery on major projects, ensuring commercial performance.
• Lead and grow client relationships across health, defence, aviation, transport, sports infrastructure and other sectors.
• Set design direction, conduct high‑level reviews and enforce best‑practice standards for all mechanical deliverables.
• Mentor and develop engineering talent, creating clear career pathways.
• Contribute to business growth through work winning, market engagement and enhancing AECOM’s reputation.

Required profile

• Chartered Engineer with relevant registration (RPEQ/RPEV or equivalent).
• 18+ years of experience in building services consultancy or mechanical contracting.
• Proven record in technical design, project delivery and strong client relationship management.
• Experience managing multiple projects across diverse market sectors.
• Australian citizenship required; defence clearance highly regarded.
