Technical Certification Engineer

About the role

The Technical Certification Engineer will provide specialist engineering and airworthiness certification expertise to support the development and sustainment of Australia’s F‑35A Lightning II capability. Working on the Air Combat Systems Program Office, the role ensures compliance with airworthiness standards for aircraft configuration changes.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver aircraft certification activities, including configuration and software changes, coordinating with Defence and industry stakeholders.
• Plan and coordinate Type certification activities to support capability upgrades and maintain certification status.
• Review airworthiness documentation and compliance evidence against applicable standards.
• Prepare and maintain certification documents such as compliance checklists, configuration control records, and airworthiness issue papers.
• Identify and manage engineering risks, issues, and system safety considerations, providing risk‑based recommendations.
• Provide engineering advice across systems engineering, including requirements, design, integration, verification & validation, and test & evaluation.

Required profile

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering (Bachelor or equivalent).
• Experience in aircraft certification, including Type Certification, Configuration Management, and compliance with standards such as MIL‑HDBK‑516C.
• Strong understanding of the engineering life cycle, requirements, design, integration, V&V, and system safety.
• Ability to review technical documentation and deliver clear, risk‑based engineering advice.
• Proven ability to manage engineering risks and work with Defence, industry, and regulatory stakeholders.
• Required Security Clearance Level: Negative Vetting Level 1 (NV1).
